Jetcross is a strong brand with an outstanding reputation for promoting PWC racing and, given the quality of the riders who will be competing in the Pro Tour together with the television coverage on major sports networks in 150 countries.
James Durbin, CEO of P1
The last six years have seen Jetcross become a national championship, then develop into an international series and now, under the P1 umbrella after being purchased by the global marine motorsport promoter in July 2016, grow into an international tour with worldwide television coverage.
The Pro Tour will feature five events in four countries on three continents from April to November, and is seen as being the biggest step forward in the sport in the last 20 years. The founder of Jetcross and now the head of P1’s European events, Julien Bastien, built a reputation in Europe as the leading promoter for the Ski discipline, and his aim is for the P1 Jetcross brand to become a world leader in PWC racing. “Ski stand-up racing is a demanding sport combining speed, athleticism, precision and power” explains Bastien, “and the Pro Tour is a significant statement regarding our commitment to the continued rise of PWC racing in Europe, the Americas and Asia.”
Well over 100 riders from all over the world will compete in events in Europe, Asia and the United States, and they will be required to display a range of skills in different water conditions as the Tour moves from ocean surf to lake to river. The sport is high-speed and technical, with 15-minute races, lots of turns and ‘splits’ and a log jump. “It’s always great fun to be involved in Jetcross racing” says reigning champion Jeremy Poret. “It’s the perfect concept for our sport and it’s going to be an amazing season.”
The season will get underway in mid-April in the famous race location of Daytona Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, where the Jetcross Pro Tour will accompany the opening round of the P1 AquaX USA Pro Championship. In July the series features three European events that include the medieval town of Estavayer-le-Lac on the banks of Lake Neuchatel and the famous spa town of Vichy on the fast-flowing River Allier.
James Durbin, CEO of P1, said: “Jetcross is a strong brand with an outstanding reputation for promoting PWC racing and, given the quality of the riders who will be competing in the Pro Tour together with the television coverage on major sports networks in 150 countries, we are confident that the new race series will make a huge impact in the marine motorsport world this year. In addition to the Pro Tour, P1 will stage a series of Jetcross national and cup events in the UK, United States, Malaysia, Switzerland and France, where So’Fun Village, the multi-leisure nautical centre some 80km from Paris, will host the final round in September for the JX Pro and National Europe Tour.”
